Unpacking the Charm of My Home’s Exterior

Hi friends, grab a cup of coffee and let’s dive into a heart-to-heart about my home’s exterior. It’s a perfect mix of traditional and modern vibes. I’ll let you in on the decision-making process and what we would and wouldn’t do again!

Living that Brick Life

First things first: Brick makes up the entire exterior of our home. Brick is long-lasting and can withstand extreme weather conditions quite impressively. To jazz them up, Benjamin Moore’s White Dove coats them beautifully and adds that much-needed neutral charm. Next, the shales are also painted with White Dove creating the perfect blend of natural textures and rustic charm.

My Home’s Exterior Windows & Doors

Choosing Windsor casement windows was a design decision I’ll never regret. Not only do they look stunning, they let in tons of light and fresh air! The living room also has two rows of Windsor sliding glass doors. Let me tell you, the amount of light is incredible and we can take in all the backyard beauty without even stepping outside.

Front & Back Porch

Next, let’s chat about our porches’ good, bad, and slippery aspects. The front porch ceiling is all tongue and groove cedar. Undeniably, it’s like the cozy sweater of porches: warm and inviting. Our front door is from Sightline Steel Doors and I absolutely love it! The size brings in tons of light to the interior, and additionally, it stands up well to the large lighting fixtures on the front porch.

We opted for tongue and groove pine on the ceiling on the back porch to save a little money. Comparatively, cedar is pricier and can be more sensitive to the weather so it made sense for us!

Lastly, the pillars on the back porch are also cedar, but I gave them a little glow-up with Sherwin Williams ‘Smoke” paint. Because this helped align the overall aesthetic to my tastes by toning down the rustic elements.

My Home’s Exterior Flooring

The porch floor is silver travertine, and despite its gorgeous appearance, I must warn you: It can get slippery, a downside we didn’t anticipate. Silver travertine is a type of gray-colored natural stone and if you’re absolutely in love it, try using it on your interiors!
