Choosing Perfect Outfits for Family Photos

Hello friends! We all know this struggle: you corral your family together for a photo session, but then face the million-dollar question – “What do we wear?” I’ve been there, and after numerous trials (and a few errors), I have some tried-and-true tips for picking the perfect outfits for family photos.

1. Stick to a Neutral Palette… With a Twist!

Neutral colors are like the safety nets of the clothing world – they’re versatile, timeless, and look good on everyone. Think shades like beige, gray, white, and black. But here’s my favorite tip: add a splash of one accent color. Whether a pop of olive, burnt orange, or navy blue, this color will tie all your outfits together and add that “wow” factor to your photos. And don’t stress about it being everywhere; a scarf here, a tie there, or even shoes can bring in that accent beautifully.

2. Go Casual and Comfortable

Comfort is key for family photos, especially if you’ve got kiddos running around or a husband who isn’t thrilled about a full day of photos. So, for the gents? I say, stick with khakis or jeans. They’re easy, look great, and offer that casual vibe that relaxes the atmosphere.

3. Coordinate in Family Photos, Don’t Match

Remember those ’90s family photos where everyone wore the exact same white tee and denim jeans? While it was cute back then, now it’s all about coordination, not duplication. If mom’s wearing a floral dress with that lovely accent color, maybe dad can have a tie or shirt in the same hue. Let the styles flow, but don’t force it too much.

4. Accessorize Wisely

Accessories can be game changers. Hats, scarves, or a statement necklace can elevate your look. But remember, less is more. You don’t want that oversized hat overshadowing your beautiful smile, right?

Some of my favorite place to shop for family photos are Revolve, Madewell, and J.Crew. They all have beautiful looks that are elevated yet still casual.

Don’t forget to be yourselves and have fun! Choose outfits that reflect who you are. Stay true to your style, be comfortable, and let your love and connection shine through. So pull out those khakis, find your accent color, and get ready to rock that photo session!
